an-Hendrik grew up on the water in South Africa and has spent the last 11 years turning that love of the ocean into a career. A commercially endorsed RYA Yachtmaster Offshore, he has sailed everything from Mediterranean charters to remote passages in South East Asia and three Atlantic Ocean crossings. Today he lives on a catamaran with his family and calls the Caribbean home, and he knows these islands, anchorages and trade wind conditions well.
As relief captain aboard Resilience, Jan-Hendrik brings a calm, safety first approach that lets guests simply relax and enjoy their time on the water. He is known for running well organised, beautifully maintained vessels, and he is just as comfortable troubleshooting an engine or watermaker as he is finding the perfect quiet anchorage for sundowners. Previous owners and captains describe him as the first one up and the last one to finish, someone who takes real pride in the boat and in every guest’s experience.
For guests who are curious about sailing, there is a special bonus onboard. Jan-Hendrik is an RYA Yachtmaster Instructor and Examiner who has taught everyone from complete beginners to aspiring professionals. Whether your children want to take the helm, you would like to learn to trim a sail, or you are simply curious about how the boat works, he is always happy to share his knowledge in a patient and encouraging way, with no pressure at all.
Off watch, you will likely find Jan-Hendrik kitesurfing, freediving or spearfishing, and he has a reputation as an excellent fisherman.
